Presented by the Korean Cultural Centre Australia, this year’s festival highlights the unique culture of Korea through the lens of cinema, offering something for everyone. Each film is presented with English subtitles, ensuring that all can enjoy and appreciate the magic of Korean storytelling.
This year, we are thrilled to announce our collaboration with local councils and our exciting touring program! KOFFIA 2024 will be visiting Canberra, Benalla, Burnside, and Alice Springs, bringing a selection of films to these communities. The touring program offers FREE ADMISSION TO ALL, welcoming everyone to experience the richness of Korean cinema.

Dong-chun is an elementary school student who attends seven afterschool learning academies. She wonders why she has to live like this but has no time to ask questions as she is swamped with homework. On a school retreat one night, Dong-chun, who had been left alone in the residence, comes across a bottle of rice wine. Later, the rice wine starts to ferment and make strange sounds.
Glub, glub-glub, glub-glub-glub-glub.
Soon, Dong-chun learns that this rhythmic sound is like the Morse code she had learned in creative science class. What is the rice wine trying to say? Dong-chun, who goes after the identity of the rice wine, finally learns the answer to the secrets of the world and why she must live the way she does.

Synopsis:
“I’m the only one who has seen his face. It’s worth a shot.”
Soo-hyun, who has recently moved into a new house, buys a used washing machine through a second-hand app but finds out it doesn’t work. Annoyed by the seller’s irresponsibility, she leaves a comment calling the seller a con man, and reports it to the police. Little does she know that the seller is a psychopathic serial killer who uses an online second-hand market to lure his victims. Her comment renders his hunt for a new victim all but impossible so she becomes his next target. She starts receiving obscene phone calls, countless unwanted food deliveries, and strange men knocking on her door looking for a good time. A trip to the sender’s address proves deadly serious when the police and Soo-hyun find a man’s dead body.

Synopsis:
“The car bumper can be replaced, but living things are precious. They are finite.”
Min-sang, a single man with a neat personality and meticulous planning, faces daily headaches because of Jin-young, a veterinarian who has turned Min-sang’s building into a watering hole of sort for stray dogs.
One day, while having a heated argument with Jin-young, Min-sang encounters a feisty old lady at the animal hospital – none other than the world-famous architect Min-seo. In desperate need of Min-seo’s help with a resort proposal, he decides to win over Jin-young to make a good impression on Min-seo.
Meanwhile, Min-seo, who suddenly collapses on the street, loses her only companion, her dog Wanda. Unaware that Wanda is being taken care of by the family of K-pop composer Sun-yong and Jung-ah in the neighborhood, Min-seo embarks on a journey to find her pet with the help of a young delivery rider named Jin-woo, who rescued her.
On the other hand, musician Hyun is taking care of his girlfriend’s dog Sting in her absence. He is taken aback when Daniel, the ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend, suddenly appears out of nowhere and demands to see Sting once a month.

Synopsis:
“If I were born again, I’d still be your friend.”
At eighty years old, Eun Sim has come back to her hometown after being away for over sixty years. She’s glad to reunite with her old friends Geum Soon and Tae Ho, who never left the town. Despite the aches and pains that come with her age, Eun Sim feels content with how she has lived her life. This film, reminiscent of a trot song, explores the blossoming of friendship and love in the later stages of life.
